Learning from My Dad’s Mistake

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

I never met my dad until I was almost old enough to drive. He was the picture of success that I never grew fond of. Despite the fact that I had to do my part when I met him, I cannot seem to help but still think that he was a deadbeat dad to me.

As soon as I had the chance, I had so many questions I needed to ask him, like why he left and why he never gave me any support. I was surprised to find that he made arrangements in court to catch up for his absence. I started receiving child support, which I was told was from the time he should have given me help. I took this to heart and when I had my own family, I made sure that I would not end up like another deadbeat dad that a lot of kids learned to somehow detest.

Explore San Diego with Annual Passes

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

People who live in tourist destinations like Southern California often miss out on some of the great local things to see and do. Some of these attractions can be very expensive and we don’t usually splurge when it’s not vacation time. Sometimes we just figure that we can go any time, so we never do.

On of the best ways to explore local venues is with annual passes. It may seem like they’re very expensive, but it can really be a cost effective option if you do it right.

To make the most of your annual pass, you want to go as often as possible, so you shouldn’t have overlapping passes. Get one each year. One year you’ll go to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park frequently. Another year you’ll be a regular at Legoland. Pick the best San Diego kids activities each year for the age of your family.

Many of these attractions offer special opportunities and discounts to season pass holders. Some offer free guest passes, so plan those for when you’re going to have out of town company. Take advantage of special tours and camps during that year. And of course if you want merchandise with that attraction’s logo, this is the time to get it.

My Asian Cousin Talks About Potty Training

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

I am an Asian but I have been an American citizen since I was 15 years old. When I visited Malaysia, I talked to my cousin who is now a pediatrician. She asked me when my child began Potty Training. I told her that the norm in the USA is to begin potty training when the child is ready. When the child will not be ready by 2, then you have to wait until he or she exhibits all signs of readiness. She told me that in Malaysia, children usually begin their potty training as soon as they learn how to walk. By then the pediatricians will recommend the parents to buy a potty training seat and to train the child to use the potty seat. I told her that it is too early to train the child before turning 2. She told me that all children are physically ready to begin potty training as soon as he or she begins walking because the bladder control generally improves during that time. According to my cousin, the point is for the child to KNOW WHERE to do it.

Preparing Our Backyard for a Playhouse

Friday, January 27th, 2012

This year we decided to get our kids a playhouse for Christmas. As we only have so much space in our garden, we decided to explore a different way to garden that would reduce the amount of space needed for the garden so we could set up the playhouse for the kids. This is where I discovered square foot gardening.

Our neighbors recently chopped down two huge trees that used to suck up all the water from our backyard which as always made gardening futile. Now that I know about the square foot gardening method, I am looking forward to building the raised beds that don’t rely on our poor soil in the backyard.

Another thing that makes this gardening method great, is that you use a soilless mixture to grow the seeds in which won’t require any weeding on my part. It provides optimum growth for the seeds which will result in a great harvest.

Potty Training Tips for Babies

Friday, December 9th, 2011

For parents, potty training is considered to be one of the major milestones, which needs to be accomplished in their life. To succeed in toilet training, you need to be patient and consistent with the entire training process. In this article let me list out few important potty tips, which will help you succeed.

  • Single most important factor that will determine your potty training success is your child’s readiness to be trained. Never make the mistake of forcing your child to use the potty for elimination. Starting too early, when the child is not ready and pressurizing the kids will produce unfruitful results.
  • When your child shows readiness, you can start the process. Initially, when your child informs you about elimination, transfer him/her to the potty immediately. At this stage, frequent accidents may happen. Always stay calm and relaxed, as you have barely started the process. During this stage, you can teach your child to hold on until he/she is transferred to the potty.
  • Get your child a pretty looking potty. You can also customize the potty by embossing your kids name on it.
  • Do remember that potty training process is not an event rather it is a process. It takes a while for your child to use the potty appropriately.

My Company Wants Me to Test and Review a Couple of Double Strollers

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

I really want to be able to push back on some requirements that my company wants from me. For example, they want me to go out and test a couple of double jogging strollers over the weekend and also write up a five hundred word review on each one and that I shoudl also provide photographs. Well this is really absurd. First of all, they are expecting me to do the work during the weekend which is just plain impractical.

Secondly, they want me to write a couple of them in such a short time frame. Well I told them that I really cannot do it for them even if doing this review on double strollers would pay me very well. I will not have enough time to put out a great looking product for them and in the end, everyone will just be cranky because of the poor work.

A Bassinet Worth Its Weight

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

I have four children at the moment so I know what it’s like to be kept awake night after night for weeks on end. I had to endure this with all four of them believe it or not. Now the other day I heard of a great new product called the first years bassinet. This little thing can actually be fitted to the side of your bed at night. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, what a fantastic idea.

With your baby next to you at all times during the night you can be at peace knowing if he or she starts to cry, you will be able to hear them. Although the first few weeks are always difficult for first time parents, the experience is a blessing overall. But, I have to say, this little product will make that experience that bit more special as you and you little one can be together even through the night, and I think that is important.
