9-11

Second Life 9-11 Memorial

Though not music related, one of my responsibilities in SL is to work as an official police AV. We greet and help newbies upon entry to SL and we also try to protect special events from “griefers” and hate crimes. On 9-11, I was asked to guard the SL 9-11 Memorial. It was an honor to be part of this event and I graciously accepted the request.
Most everyone that visited the Memorial were AV’s who lost RL loved ones on that tragic day. I quietly took my post and did my best to protect the area so these people could remember loved ones in peace.
The names of each person lost that day were engraved on the walls of the sim (see below). It was overwhelming when I saw just how many walls were needed for the names. AV’s could leave flowers, light candles and sit in quiet areas to reflect and pray.

In another section, the actual photos were posted of each firefighter and person lost that day. This area was very somber and you could feel the spirits of these brave people as you gazed upon their wonderful faces.

Another section of the sim held actual photos of the Twin Towers.

After 10 hours of guard duty I was on my way home when I ran into this replica of one of the crashed planes outside. I was tired  and overcome with emotion & couldn’t stop staring at it. Yes, AV’s have feelings too. Behind every AV is a living soul. Many who lost loved ones on 9-11 and now thousands more who have lost family  from the war that ensued.
The 9-11 tragedy will forever be remembered in both RL & SL.
